The alligator is the official state reptile of Florida.
The length in inches from an alligator's nose to it's eyes is equal to the overall length of the gator in feet. This is good to know, because when they swim through the water, you can only see the head until you get right up on it.
An alligator has between 74 and 80 teeth. When it is hatched, it has one extra tooth on the end of it's snout which it uses to break the egg it's in. After hatching, it looses that tooth.
A mother gator, lays between 35 and 90 eggs in late June or early July. About 80% of them are lost to predators. The young grow about one foot in length per year and reach maturity in six years.
