Tough language!  Today's Gospel reading is again from John.  Matthew, Mark and Luke are the 'big picture' guys.  John gets into details.  We have read his accounts for several weeks.

Now he relates that Jesus asked His followers if they were understanding all that he was saying and if they could follow His instructions.  Remember a week or two ago we read that Jesus said if you are rich give everything to the poor.  Jesus knew that not everyone would buy this.  Then last week we read that Jesus said "Unless you eat my body and drink my blood,..."  Jesus knew that not everyone was buying this, either.

Many stopped following Jesus.  All this He accepted.  He knew not everyone would follow Him but He seemed okay with that.  He could only tell it like it is.  Was Jesus harsh?  Does it take some effort to follow Him?   ** Nobody said it would be easy.
