SUNDAY SERVICE

In this weeks Gospel reading from Mark, we find Jesus curing a man's deafness and his speech impediment. Jesus asked those present not to tell anyone what they had seen.   Duh!  Of course, they were so excited and amazed they had to tell everyone they saw what Jesus had done.  I can't blame them.

Now think about this man who could not speak well and could not hear at all.  Doubtless, he was depressed; a pauper and an outcast of sorts.  This was exactly the kind of person Jesus wanted to help.  Remember He said that heaven belonged to the poor in spirit....not the rich and happy and healthy...but the poor in spirit.  If you are Christian, this is the type of person you should help.  This is a lesson in social justice.  Be kind to the poor in spirit - the depressed, the poor, the outcasts of your world.
