Male mosquitoes don't bite you - only females. Males spend all their time taking nectar from plants. Only the females have a snout with which to bite. Their saliva has an anti-coagulant in it so they can draw blood easily. So, if you see a mosquito flying around your patio, don't swat it until you check to see if it is male or female.
I could make some offhand demeaning comment about how similar humans and mosquitoes are with respect to the sexes . . . but I fear I would get bitten.
