WORLD HISTORY

(No softball game last night) - A history of the modern world in two minutes.

The world went through what we call the Dark Ages for a thousand years following the fall of the Roman Empire; i.e. from the 5th through the 15th centuries.  It was a period dominated by superstition and convoluted religious beliefs. It took science and the adventurous human spirit to bring the world out of it.

In the sixteenth century, shipbuilding was advanced to a level that allowed 'the brave' to explore the planet and the 'even braver' to migrate to new found lands.  Literature began to flourish with inventions that made book printing and binding easier.  By the seventeenth century, the age of science began and the world was moving forward by leaps and bounds.

The eighteenth century saw the consolidation of new lands and new countries.  Wars over the control of land predominated.   Literature continued to flourish this century and now some of the world's finest music was written.  The nineteenth century brought the first electronics to the world and huge advances in medicine.  It was during this century that the current world powers were established.

The twentieth century brought industrialization, transportation advancements, communications technology, nuclear power, and me.  So far, the twenty-first century has brought us into the digital age and struggles with ecology.  One more term by another socialistic American President and I hate to think what will become of the world.
