RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

7/04/2016

JULY 4

Let's see, did anything significant happen on this date?

Okay, here's a nugget:

On this date in 1826, both Thomas Jefferson (third President ) and John Adams (second President) died.  Two of our Founding Fathers died on the same day, Independence Day, exactly 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was adopted.

And another:

On this date in 1939, Lou Gehrig, the great Yankee first baseman, told a crowd at Yankee Stadium that he considers himself  "The luckiest man on the face of the earth."  He had been diagnosed with ALS the previous week.  He died about two years later at the age of 37.

Happy Fourth of July!  Be safe.
