RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

AUGUST 15

On this date in 1812, the Battle of Fort Dearborn was fought.  This battle was part of the War of 1812 which lasted three years.  The war was fought between the United States and The United Kingdom (Great Britain).  The UK was aided by Indian tribes and British colonies in Canada.

The Battle of Fort Dearborn was fought between U.S. forces and the Potawatomi Indian tribe.  Fort Dearborn and the area around it would one day become the location of Chicago, IL.  The Potawatomi were located all along Lake Michigan from what is now northern Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario.

The battle was short lived.  The Indians overran the fort, killed everyone and burned it to the ground.  You see, the Chicago area hasn't changed much in two hundred and four years.
