On this date in 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast of the United States. The City of New Orleans was the focal point of the deadliest US natural disaster in my lifetime but coastal Mississippi, Alabama and Texas were also involved. 1,245 people perished in the storm and subsequent flooding. It is estimated that the property damage amounted to $108 billion. Eleven years ago today.
