MARTYRDOM

Martyrdom is a word you don't hear very often.  It describes the act of giving up one's life for a cause . . . allowing your life to be taken for a cause.  Religious zealots are sometimes persecuted and end up being martyrs. 

What we should not do, is confuse the modern-day so-called suicide bombers with martyrs.   Real martyrs do not take their own life.  Real martyrs do not take other lives with theirs.
