RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY SERVICE

The parable we hear this weekend is the one Jesus tells about the rich landowner and his steward.  It's not the only story about stewardship in the Bible; it is a familiar theme.

A steward is one who handles the affairs of another.  He buys what is needed and sells what needs to be sold.  From the money perspective, he is a finance man of sorts.

In the general sense, being a good steward means handling what has been given to you wisely.  Who receives more, should do more.  In this story, the landowner is of course our Maker and we are the stewards.

Here, Luke's Gospel takes it a little further.  Included in it is the great maxim, "The person who is trustworthy in very small matters will also be trustworthy in great ones."

Use all your gifts wisely - not only your wealth, but your health and intelligence, your personality, your love!  Give what you have to those in need.

ps.  starting next week, Sunday Service will come on Saturday.
