WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, a very young kid in 1945, the country celebrated on this day - September 2nd.

Today is VJ Day.  It stands for Victory over Japan.  World War II had officially come to an end.

Japanese military and civilian leaders signed an official surrender and peace treaty (Potsdam Declaration) on the Battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.   Japan had verbally surrendered on August 15.  President Truman declared this date as VJ Day.
