RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY SERVICE

We have arrived at the feast of Christ the King.  The last Sunday in the Catholic Church's calendar year.  Next Sunday begins the Advent season.

For the last few weeks, we have been hearing from Luke what Jesus taught about the 'end times'. Tomorrow, one last story - this time you will hear about the "good thief".

While hanging on a cross next to Jesus, the 'good thief' admonished his comrade also hanging on a cross.  He told the other that, unlike them, Jesus was a good man. He saw through the sign of ridicule which the Romans had placed atop the cross on which Jesus hung.  It said, "Jesus, King of the Jews".  They were making fun of Jesus because a king would never die of crucifixion.

The 'good thief', after admitting his guilt, said to Jesus, "Remember me when you come into your kingdom."  Jesus replied, "This day you will be with me in Paradise."  All sins can be forgiven - heaven is ours if we only ask.
