RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

DECEMBER 26

On this date in 1919, the Boston Red Sox baseball team sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. That precipitated what became known as the "Curse of the Bambino".   Bambino was Babe Ruth's nickname.

Let's go back for a moment.   The Red Sox had won the World Series of major league baseball in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, and 1918.  Five world championships in 15 years.  They were the team to be envied.  Winning was easy.  Their owner needed money, I suppose, and traded 'The Babe' to the rival Yankees.

Oooops!  The Red Sox never won another championship for 85 years.   They finally broke the curse in 2004.

"Sweet Caroline"  . . . Good times never seemed so good , , ,
