SUNDAY SERVICE

This is the second Sunday of the Advent season.  A time when all Christianity prepares for the coming of the Savior, Jesus.  The passage we hear this weekend from Matthew's Gospel is about repentance and preparation, of course.   It's that time of year.  But it has a further message.

The tells about John baptizing people in the Jordan.  He admonishes some Jewish priests and teachers of their religion who came to the river because he knows that they think they are better than the others who had come to be baptized.  They thought they had a 'leg up' on those who were not born into a religious family or had religious education.  John says, "No!"

Everyone will be judged according to God's standard.  If a tree does not bear fruit, he will cut it down and burn it.

Bear fruit, my friends!
