RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY SERVICE

This weekend at Catholic mass, you will again hear Scripture readings preparing us for Christmas. Isaiah, the prophet, told of the coming of Christ and what we would see, years before.  In a reading from James, he gives his followers in the early church the same advice, to prepare themselves for the 'second' coming of the Christ. Matthew's gospel passage deals with John the Baptist who was sent to prepare the way.  John, at this time, was in prison at the time - confined by Herod.

The most interesting lines in this passage are at the end.  First, Jesus confirms that John is the one that the prophets foretold would prepare the way for Christ - that he was the messenger that was promised.  Then He says, "Amen, I say to you, among those born of women, there has been none greater than John the Baptist.  Yet, the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he."

How great it must be, to be in Heaven.  How perfect we must become.

Keep your eye on the prize.
