The day after the inauguration of our new President, he and his wife along with the new Vice President and his spouse, attended an interfaith service at the Washington National Cathedral. This has been the custom of the newly elected for many years. George Washington did this and every President since FDR.
The service opened with a Navajo blessing and included words from representatives of the Catholic, Protestant, Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Mormon, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist, and Baha'i Faiths. Each spoke and prayed in his own form and language.
The Dean of the Washington National Cathedral, the Very Reverend Randolph Marshall Hollerith, spoke the following: "O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on Earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne through Jesus Christ our Lord."
AMEN!
