RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY SERVICE

This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear Matthew relate how Jesus got his ministry started.  First he hears of John the Baptist being arrested and jailed.  This told him that the time was now.  No more time to wait.  He left the area of Nazareth and went to Galilee.  He could not risk that he would be arrested even before his work had begun.

There, at the Sea of Galilee, he chose two sets of brothers to be his disciples.  Simple fishermen, they laid down their nets, left their families and followed the man who seemed to do miracles. These were, first, Peter and his brother Andrew and then James and his brother John - the first four Apostles.

That's the history part of the story.  The real crux of the story is faith.  Give up your job?  Leave your family?  I have no money, follow me?  Some things went on there that we do not know or understand.  His very presence must have been so powerful that ... men would follow him ... attend to him and his needs.

Come, follow Him.
