RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

⚾ Okay, the Reds lost the opener.  That doesn't mean they can't open the garage door or a bottle of beer.  It just means that they have 161 games left to figure out how to win 100 games.

The whole game could be a microcosm of the season about to unfold.  They got mediocre starting pitching, got decent relief pitching, and got quite a few hits but missed many opportunities to drive in runs.

New utility man, Scooter Gennett, lined a ball into the left field seats with a man on in the ninth. That left the Reds on the short side of a 4-3 game...tsk, tsk...close - but no banana!

🏈 Here are the latest guesses as to who the Bengals will draft with the 9th pick in the first round this year - guesses by people who think they know something about pro football.  Five talking heads think the Bengals first pick will be one of these four..

O.J. Howard tight end from Alabama.  Does someone think Eifert will never stay healthy?
Derek Barnett defensive end Tennessee  One of the premier pass rushers in the country.
Cam Robinson offensive tackle Alabama  Replacement for Whitworth & the disappointing Ogbeuhi
Reuben Foster linebacker Alabama  A middle backer who plays the run from sideline to sideline

Who won the National Championship in college football last year?  They have four players projected to go in the top nine picks.  Wow!

🏈 UC Football is continuing spring practice.  Coach Luke Fickell took the team to Elder's stadium "The Pit" for a practice.  It's a nice stadium, one of the top for high schools, but nothing like they will walk into on September 9th when the Bearcats play Michigan in "The Big House" before 109,000 Wolverine fans.

⚽ FC Cincinnati, our USL pro soccer team, has opened the season on the road and is 1-1 so far.  The home opener will be on April 15 at Nippert Stadium.  Keep your eye on #9 - forward Djiby Fall.  Yes, I did spell his name correctly.
