RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY LITURGY

Tomorrow at Catholic mass you will hear a portion of Luke's Gospel in which he recounts the story of the two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus shortly after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. They were discussing what had happened in Jerusalem.  A third man, a stranger, began to walk with them and joined into the discussion.  When they reached their destination, they invited the stranger to stay the night and dine with them.  At the meal, the stranger broke bread and blessed it - poured wine and blessed it - and then they recognized Him -  and then He disappeared.  It was another of the appearances of Jesus after His death.

They couldn't recognize Jesus until they saw him with the bread and wine.  There are messages here for us. 1.)  You may not recognize Jesus in those you meet along the way.  But, if you spend enough time with them, you will.  2.) As they recognized Jesus by the breaking of the bread, may it be that you are recognized as a Christian by your love.
