SUNDAY SERVICE

We've reached the last weekend before Easter.  In today's Gospel, we recall the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.  He was carried on a donkey and those that knew him waved palm fronds as he rode by or placed them in the roadway. Palm frond waving was usually restricted for governors, kings and emperors.  Some others threw their cloaks on the ground in front of him which was a sign of servitude.

This made for a nice entrance but pissed off the hierarchy of the local synagogues.  They made it known that they'd like to get rid of Jesus.  Judas saw an opportunity to make some money and the passion of the Lord was put into motion.  A Passover dinner between Jesus and his Apostles was arranged.  The rest of the story unfolded as retold many times: the last supper; the garden of Gethsemane; the capture of Jesus; His torture; His sentence; the carrying of the cross to Golgotha; His crucifixion, death and burial.

Take time in the next week to at least think about the events that bring us to Easter.  Services will be available in all Christian churches.
