CINCINNATI

On May 17, 1886, the Cincinnati Art Museum moved into it's current building.  The museum was founded in 1881 and was housed in Music Hall until it's stately permanent home in Eden Park atop Mount Adams was completed.  It was the first art museum in North America west of the Allegheny mountains.  A number of alterations and additions have taken place over the last 131 years.

The museum has a fine collection of master works - 73 collections in all that includes paintings, carvings, pottery  and international handiwork.  A special collection of work by Cincinnati artists and about Cincinnati fill one wing.  The building is impressive, cool, quiet and inviting.  Endowments have eliminated general admission fees.

This week, it was announced that the museum had received an $11.75 million donation from patrons Carl and Alice Bimel.  This is the largest donation the museum has ever received. Museum management says that it will be used to purchase South Asian art.

If you're nearby, don't miss the opportunity to visit a gem of the city.
