SUNDAY LITURGY

This weekend, for the sixth Sunday of Easter we have the simplest of messages.  Jesus said, "Whoever loves me will keep my word and my Father will love him and we will come to him."

The passages we have read from the New Testament in the past weeks since Easter are all about the beginnings of the Church.  Readings from Peter and from the Acts of the Apostles have detailed how the Apostles and other disciples spread the 'word' - they preached how Jesus Christ was 'the way'.

It was not easy.  There was some confusion.  These believers were carrying the 'word' to Jews and Gentiles and pagans alike - peoples of different nations who spoke different languages.  Nowhere were all the laws written down.  No one knew if the old laws of Judaism were still in effect.  Aided by the Spirit, Peter made a very rational decision for the group about what to do.  Keep it simple!  Love Jesus and keep His word.  Remember his two most important laws were:  1.) love God  2.) love your neighbor as yourself.  Simple!
