CINCINNATI

We've talked about people, institutions, places and much more related to The Queen City of the West.
This week we talk food.

A company named Glier's Meats Inc. sits just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati in Covington, Kentucky.  Glier's makes more than a million pounds every year of a concoction they call goetta. About 99% of it is consumed in the greater Cincinnati area.  Too bad for the rest of the world.

Goetta is a breakfast meat made of pork and beef scraps and extended with steel cut oats .  It is sold at the grocery in a log for slicing or in fried slices at restaurants.  Of course, there are some secret spices added to the mixture.  If you are frying it yourself, stand back.  It tends to spit and pop in the skillet. But friends, it is soooo good.   You don't know what you're missing.
