RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

AUGUST 14

On this date in 1975, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" was released.  This British-American movie holds the record for the longest running release in cinematic history.  It is still in limited release today.

"Rocky" includes in it's cast Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick, and Meat Loaf.  It is a musical spoof of early horror and science fiction flicks.  (Sarandon was 29 at the time.)

When it was released it met with poor reviews and a limited audience.  It soon became a midnight movie and on its way out the door.  But, in 1976 in New York, it developed a cult following and it grew into a participation event.  Moviegoers started showing up in costume to resemble the cast. Eventually, they learned the lines and went on stage during the showing of the movie - duplicating what was on screen.  Crowds continued to grow.  The fad spread across the country.

If you haven't seen it or haven't seen it in a long time, watch it.  It's a masterpiece.  It gets better and better every time I watch it.  I love it!
😁

ps.  Also on this date in 1935, FDR signed into law the Social Security Act so that I could spend my last days unemployed and writing tripe like this on the Internet.
