The tragedies we've had the past three weeks in southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana from Hurricane Harvey and then in the Caribbean up the west coast of Florida from Hurricane Irma made me think of September 2008 in Cincinnati. It was the only occasion in my lifetime when a hurricane spawned hurricane force winds in southwestern Ohio. Hurricane Ike was the culprit.
We were out of power for over three days and stuck with a damaged house and toppled trees. I would never say that it was comparable to the damage done to our southern friends this year but it was a strange - once in a lifetime event. The statistics say that 26 people were killed in the middle of the country. Over 2.6 million people were without power in Ohio. We also had a water emergency declared in our area. Worst of all, our phones didn't work. Yikes!
Another time, I'll talk about the huge tornado we lived through in April 1974. Memories!
