ISAIAH 25:6-10 PSALM 23 PHILIPPIANS 4:12-20 MATTHEW 22:1-14
For the third week in a row, Matthew offers one of the famous parables of Jesus. This, the wedding feast, when those invited would not attend and those they could find took their place. One of those late-comers did not dress is suitable clothing and he was shown the door.
The parable was again told to the leaders of the Jewish community and it directly reflects on them. Those invited to the wedding feast represent the Chosen People (the Jews) who were invited to God's kingdom. They rejected Jesus and were not brought into the kingdom. Of those that were then invited, the Gentiles of course, some of them were not worthy and they were also barred from God's kingdom.
The message is - you do not have to be Jewish - you do not have to be anything - but you must be worthy. Nothing guarantees your worthiness except your works. Be a good person.
