CINCINNATI

Today, we'll talk about letters - initials - and the man who's got more than anyone.  Today is his birthday and he was born and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.  His name is not Ted but that's what he goes by.

Robert Edward (Ted) Turner III was born on this date in 1938.  At the age of three, with World War II escalating, his father signed up for the Navy and took his mother and sister to the Gulf Coast.  They left Ted behind to live here in a boarding home.  After the war, the family relocated to Savannah, GA and Ted was enrolled in a military academy.

Now for the letters/initials:  TBS, TNT, CNN, TCM, TCN, MIBC, TEC - these are some of the one's he founded. In his spare time, he owned the Atlanta Braves baseball franchise; co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative; bought the MGM/UA studios temporarily and then retained their film library; owned World Championship Wrestling (WCW);  founded the Turner Foundation philanthropic organization; well, there's more but I'm tired.
