WEEKEND LITURGY

ISAIAH 61   THESSALONIANS 5   JOHN 1

On this third Sunday of Advent, the theme of our readings is that of the messenger.  Isaiah was a prophet who acted as messenger in pre-christian times to announce that God was coming.  John the Baptist was also a messenger who told the people of Israel that the time for God's coming was here.

These readings should bring to mind that we should also be messengers.  (Actually, we are messengers whether we like it or not.)  Our children, our relatives, our friends and all we meet are receiving messages from us every day.  Being a messenger is a great responsibility.  Bring the right message - don't leave God out of your message.
