This is a story about one of the Cincinnati Reds - but not one you've heard of. His name is Brandon Dixon. He is what you call a non-roster invitee to Spring Training Camp. He's trying to make the team as a back-up infielder/outfielder. Brandon is 26 years old (very old for a rookie) and has spent his entire career in the minors. If he doesn't make it this year, he may be through with professional baseball. As of this writing, Dixon is hitting .300 this Spring in 20 at bats and has three home runs. That's really good compared to what the rest of the team is doing. Joey Votto is hitting under .100 and Billy Hamilton doesn't have a hit yet.
All of the above has nothing to do with why I'm writing about him. It's all because of social media. I saw a 'tweet' attributed to Brandon that struck me. The twitter message went like this: "If you eat, invest and think according to what the 'news' advocates, you'll end up nutritionally, financially and morally bankrupt."
Amen! I hope he makes the team.
