ROLLIN'

Anna Mae Bullock grew up living with her grandmother in Nutbush, Tennessee.  (Tennessee is renowned for great city names - see my entry of 10/11/2016)  When the grandmother died suddenly, Anna Mae, now a teenager, went to live with her mother in St. Louis.  She got a job there, singing with a band called the Kings of Rhythm.  Ike, the leader of that band, had her change her first name to Tina.  He gave her his last name, Turner, though they were not married, in order to discourage guys from making passes at her.  Some time later they did have a tumultuous 16-year marriage.

Tina went on to sell more concert tickets, according to the Guinness World Records, than any other individual artist.  Proud Mary is still wondering what love's got to do with it.
Ladies and gentlemen, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, TinaTurner.
