MONKEY BUSINESS

Besides humans, the only primate living freely on the European Continent is the Barbary Macaque.

Barbary, of course, refers to that part of the world once known as the Barbary Coast.  It is an outdated term referring to the countries of Africa we now call Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Algeria. 

A macaque is a small monkey.  I assume they were carried across the Mediterranean Sea by sailors.  They can be found in Spain, France and Italy. 

They are very social creatures.  For Mother's Day, here is a mom and child.
