WEEKEND LITURGY

This weekend we hear readings from:  1.  the Book of Amos;  in it he explains that God chose him to be a prophet.  2. the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians;  in it he explains that God, through Jesus, chose the Apostles and other disciples to spread the teachings of Christ. 3.  the Gospel of Mark;  in it he explains how Jesus instructed the Apostles in how to go out and preach.

I get a kick out of the instruction Jesus gave to his Apostles;  go two by two and take nothing extra for the journey - no money, no extra clothing, no food.  This reminds me of how my wife packs for our vacations.  She owns one of the largest suitcases ever assembled.  She buys new wardrobe for every day of the trip.  She packs a pair of shoes for every outfit.  She stows her make-up and all the personal grooming devices she owns.  We only go for 1 to 2 weeks - any longer and we would need a U-haul truck.

There is a message here.  Have faith.  Lets not be too hung up on what we need for the 'now.'   The Lord will provide.   Keep your eye on the goal.  If you have God, you need nothing else.
