RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

8/20/2018

AUGUST 20

On this date in 1920, 98 years ago, the National Football League was formed in Canton, Ohio.  It was originally called the American Football Conference.  Two years after it's forming, it changed it's name to the NFL.  The organizational meeting was held in an auto showroom.

Attendees at the meeting included the Akron Pros, the Canton Bulldogs, the Cleveland Indians, the Rock Island Independents and the Dayton Triangles.  The league consisted of 14 teams with Jim Thorpe being named the league president.  The 1920 champs were the Akron Pros.
