At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear two readings, one from the Old Testament and the other a Gospel reading, that mesh hand in hand. In Genesis chapter 2, God is deciding that the man he made needed a mate; a partner, a friend. Loneliness is a bad thing. God made Eve to be Adam's partner that they may be one flesh.
In Mark chapter 10, the Pharisees are questioning Jesus about divorce. Jesus did not absolutely rule out separation but did forbid remarriage. "What God has joined, no human should separate." Jesus went on to point out that God made people male and female - different beings - each needs the other to be fulfilled.
Marriage is a blessed state. It conforms to God's plan.
