CINCINNATI

Cincinnati has had the reputation of being an extremely conservative city for most of my life.

In my younger days, we had a watchdog group Citizens for Decent Literature led by Charles Keating that got involved in rating movies, stage plays, novels and magazines.  Cincinnati prohibited the sale of most "men's magazines" for a lot of years.

Cincinnati Right To Life founder, Dr. John Willke, became president of the national organization.  His struggle against abortion here is renowned.

It was here that Hustler Magazine owner, Larry Flint, was prosecuted for pornography.   He most indelicately pictured the local prosecutor in his magazine.

The art exhibit of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe was shut down here temporarily and then the exhibitors were brought to court for pandering obscenity here in Cincinnati.

You get the picture?  Not if it's XXX-rated.
