RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

When the core area of Cincinnati was laid out, they named the east-west streets by number starting at the river.  The highest number street is 15th.  1st Street doesn't exist any more - the riverfront has been cluttered up with stadiums and parks.  At one time, it sat between Pete Rose Way and Mehring Way.  Mehring has been partially superseded by the Ohio River Byway.

Most of my readers know Pete Rose but fewer are familiar with Art Mehring.  He was a local police lieutenant who was the first helicopter traffic reporter in town.  He lost his life in a copter accident.

The north-south streets (from west to east) in the core area are Central, Plum, Elm, Race, Vine, Walnut, Main, Sycamore and Broadway.  If you want help remembering the street names in order, just remember "Cincinnati Prays for Every Rare Victory With Marvin's Sorry Bengals.
