INTERFAITH WISDOM

Have you wondered about the Pentecostals?  who they are?   and what they believe in?

Pentecostals are a 100 years old movement within the Christian churches.  Some Protestant Churches are strictly Pentecostal and most others have a Pentecostal movement or sect within them.
The Assemblies of God is an example of a strictly Pentecostal religious group.  The Roman Catholic Church has a Charismatic movement in some ways similar to Pentecostalism - with emphasis on the Holy Spirit.

The name stems from the event in Biblical Christian history when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles after the death of Jesus.  The Spirit inspired and gave them the strength and will to carry His word to other nations.  'Speaking in tongues' was one of the gifts they received and the 'power to heal' is another.

Pentecostalism had a rebirth in the 1960s and again in the 1990s.  Not every Pentecostal religion shares the identical beliefs.  But, at the core of every one is the belief in Baptism by the Holy Spirit.  They are one of the fastest growing religious groups in the world.

Here is a Pentecostal prayer for healing.

Almighty and Everlasting God
the eternal salvation to those who believe in You,
hear us on behalf of Your servants who are sick,
for whom we humbly beg the help of Your mercy,
so that, being restored to health,
they may render thanks to You in Your church.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen
