CINCINNATI

One of the all time great players for the Cincinnati Reds died last Thursday.  His name was Frank Robinson.

Frank was with the Reds from 1956 to 1965 while I was heavily into playing baseball.  He was voted the Most Valuable Player in the National League in 1961.  After he was picked up for gun possession, the Reds traded him to the Baltimore Orioles supposedly because he was getting 'old'.  Robinson went on to be a successful player, player/manager and manager for many years.

In 1966, he was the triple crown winner in the American League and the league's most valuable player.   On top of that, he led his new team to the world championship - he did that again in 1971 against our own Reds.

He was also a 14 time all-star, a manager of the year award winner, a World Series MVP and a gold glove winner.   His statue adorns the Baseball Hall of Fame.

We had him and, foolishly, let him get away.  He was a good man; as solid a person as you will find.
