This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear from Luke's gospel the story about Simon and cohorts going out to fish at Jesus' request. They were dubious about the effort because they had just come in from fishing all night and catching almost nothing. Of course, they did what He asked and caught all they could handle and more.
For us, we should read the meaning of this story straightforwardly. We are called to go where we are loathe to go. We are called to do what makes us uncomfortable. We are called to try even though we feel it would be fruitless.
Life doesn't have to be difficult, though it often is, but seeking only what is easy, comfortable and rewarding is not the highest calling. You can do better. Don't avoid traveling with God because it is easy. It's really not as hard as you might think.
