RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear an interesting story that takes place after Jesus has risen and after he had already appeared to the Apostles one time.  This time, Jesus asks Peter three times, "Do you love me?"  It may have been a test because Peter had denied three times that he even knew Jesus just before the crucifixion.  Peter says, "You know everything, you know that I do."  Jesus, just wanted Peter to verbalize it.  Jesus then responded to Peter each time; "Feed my sheep." or "Shepherd my flock."

Two major things are found here:  Jesus forgives him for the almost unforgivable sin of denying he knew him and that Peter is chosen by Jesus as the unquestioned leader of the Apostles and his church.  Jesus has limitless mercy.  The other key thing to think about from this reading is the requirement to verbalize your feelings.  Of course, Jesus knew what Peter was thinking but he wanted him to say it.  He wants you to say it, too.  Pray - talk to Jesus.
