Honda has been the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world since 1959. All in all, they make for engines of various types than anyone. Honda makes so many cars in the U.S. that they export to other countries from here more cars than they import.
Mr. Honda went into business for himself back in 1937 - he made piston rings for Toyota. It was not a success. During the war, Toyota took control of Honda making parts for motorcycles and cars. After the war, Honda started making it's own motorcycles. In 1963, they ventured into automobiles and small trucks. In the early 1990's, Honda risked being left behind by the rest of the industry.
In the mid 90's, Honda developed the Odyssey and the CR-V and their business took off. It literally took off when, in 1995, they went into the airplane business. I haven't bought one yet but I hear they're doing quite well.
In 2018, Honda reported sales of $138 billion and profit of almost $10 billion. That's not too bad!
