BIBLE/TORAH STORIES
I read where the first word of The Ten Commandments as shown in the Torah is not Hebrew but an Egyptian word. Do you think the Jews lived in Egypt so long (in excess of 400 years) that God forgot he should be writing to the Israelites in Hebrew?
God gave the Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai shortly after they left Egypt. Now, Mt. Sinai is over 7,000 ft in elevation (hard to breath up there) and at least 1,000 ft above it's surroundings. Moses was over 80 years old. Moses spent forty days up on the mountain with God - bought the tablets down once and broke them and had to go back up the mountain to get a new set. Can you imagine an 80 year-old making two trips walking up and down that mountain? Was Moses negotiating with God up there?
I think it's also likely that God never wrote any "Thou shalt not's" on the stone slabs/tablets. Why wouldn't he just tell them straight up something more definitive like "Don't"? King James added all that flowery language. There are several versions of the Commandments floating around - they all have basically the same messages.
The Israelites wandered in the desert area between Egypt and Israel for forty years. Yikes! Do you think there were a lot of people thinking they should stop following old man Moses? Moses lived until he saw the Promised Land - he was 120 years old.
