Have you heard the name Jeff Osterfeld from the Cincinnati area? In 1983, shortly after graduating from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Jeff opened a delicatessen in the Dayton Mall. He called it Jeffery's Delicatessen.
He struggled a little with that venture but discovered the customer's favorite sandwich he had was an East Coast sub called a Philly Cheese Steak. In 1985, he opened a Cincinnati area restaurant and called it Penn Station because he was specializing in that Philly Cheese Steak.
By 1987, he was selling franchises for his Penn Station restaurants. There are now over 300 restaurants in 15 states.
Why did I bring this up? Last Monday, I golfed at Stonelick Hills near Batavia. Osterfeld had that course built for his own pleasure and it is a beauty. Not only that, I took the photo below on the first hole. He has two pet bison. Glad I didn't slice one into his area.
