On this date in 1921, Adolph Hitler became the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party - English-speaking countries called it the Nazi Party.  It was founded just two years earlier as the German Workers Party...the word Socialist was slipped in just before Hitler was named Fuhrer - that means "party leader". 

The party had a membership of less than 60 in 1920...it numbered 8.5 million by 1945.   In 1933, Hitler was named Chancellor of Germany by the President (chancellor is like chief operating officer).  Soon, he was Mr. Everything.  "Give him an inch and he'll take a foot."  He rebuilt their war machine and began a process of acquiring land contiguous to Germany. 

Hitler social agenda swore that the Aryan race (white Europeans) was the master race and needed to be kept pure.  With his economic agenda, he avowed that capitalists had taken advantage of workers during World War I and needed to be put under control of the government - socialism was the answer.  Here note that Jews were not Aryans and many were business owners or operators. 

Ninety-eight (98) years ago today.  I'm sure most of the German people didn't see it coming.
