At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear a passage from Luke's gospel about Heaven. It addresses a question that we all have asked ourselves. Here is my synopsis - my words.
Someone asked Jesus, "How many people will be saved? How many will get to heaven? Will it be many or only a few?"
Jesus did not answer the question directly. Instead, he instructed them to expect it to be difficult.
He told them that very many people, people from all over the world, will think they are getting in but it will not be. Many will think they have done what is necessary but they have not.
The deciding factor will be this, "Do you know God?" "Did you build a relationship with him?" "Did you really do what He asked?"
Many will come from distant lands whom you may have thought were not worthy and will be accepted. Many who you looked down upon will enter.
Every person's circumstance is different. Those who have been given much, will be expected to do much.
