RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

OCTOBER 28

On this date in 1965, Pope Paul VI promulgated a declaration put together by the Second Vatican Council of the Catholic Church.  The declaration is known by it's Latin name, Nostra Aetate, which means "in our time".   This declaration changes the Catholic Church's attitude toward and directs it's relationship with non-christian religious groups, i.e. Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists.  It promoted a working relationship between all and began a move toward ecumenism - the theory that all religions should be one.  The document was in 'the works' for almost four years.  It and the new constitutions which this Vatican Council produced have had a profound effect on the Catholic Church.  Fifty-four years ago today.
