THIS N THAT

Ethiopian Ethiopian Ethiopian Eliud Kipchoge broke the 'unbreakable' barrier of two hours in a marathon run (26.2 miles) last Saturday in Vienna.  Like the sub 2-minute mile run by Roger Bannister in 1954 and Usain Bolt's 2009 run of 100 meters in under 10 seconds, the running world is abuzz.  Problem is, Kipchoge didn't break the record in a marathon event.  It was a set-up, made for the press, race against time with all the technology a person could ask for.  It's still fast and proves someone could do it.  I'm training.

There was a day when every nice restaurant had books of matches available with their name imprinted and free to everyone for the taking.  I collected them for a while.  Seems strange now.

The Rugby World Cup is being played in Japan from September 20 through November 2.  This is the event of the Rugby Union and not the Rugby League.  Seeding was #1 New Zealand; #2 Wales; #3 Ireland; #15 USA.   Last Sunday USA got beaten by the island of Tonga 31-19 after losing to France and Argentina in previous matches.  Our boys must have gotten some bad sushi.

It is the tip of our tongues which has the sweet receptors.  Kids, stick the tip of your tongue in the sugar bowl and not the salt shaker.
