RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

The Krohn Conservatory is a top notch, must-see venue in the Queen City.  Named for Irwin M. Krohn, a one-time commissioner of the Park Board, it is situated in Eden Park high above the city center.  Built in 1933, it replaced several greenhouses in the area and put an enormous collection (over 3500 species) of flora in one location.

When I grew up here, we called it "the flower house."  It was worth at least two visits a year for us; one for the flowers and one for the live Nativity scene in it's yard.  I believe that each season of the year brings some changes to their offerings. Now, you might see a model train display and seasonal Christmas flowers.   In the Spring, there might be a live butterfly exhibit.  Check their website.

So, if you're tense from your duties at work or the pressures of Christmas shopping, a visit to this plant sanctuary will calm the soul.  Smile and smell the roses.
