The River Jordan runs from Eastern Israel westward through the Sea of Galilee and on to the Dead Sea. It stretches for over 150 miles and much of it is at the border between Israel and Jordan. It is fed by small streams out of Lebanon and Syria.
Near the Jordan River is desert for the most part. It was from this desert that Moses brought the Israelites who had escaped Egypt. Across the Jordan was the "Promised Land."
John baptized Jesus in the Jordan and he spent much of his adult life in the desert nearby. John was all about preparing the world for the coming of the Savior. He preached in the desert and many came to listen. Even leaders of the Jewish community and synagogue came. To them, John gave a stern rebuke that is a lesson for us. In essence he said, "Don't come out here in the desert hoping to be saved when you don't believe. It's not going to work. Find this Jesus and do what he says."
Find Jesus and do what he says - that's it. Simple! You know where he is. You should know what he wants. It's time to do it.
ps: Tomorrow is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary - always a holy day but this year on a Sunday. Ask the mother of Jesus to pray for you - she will.
Have a blessed week.
