DENMARK

Denmark is a southern Scandinavian country.  It is officially the Kingdom of Denmark.   That's right, it's a monarchy.  It's people are known as Danes.  The country is famous for being the home of the Vikings (before they moved to Minnesota), bakery sweet rolls and large dogs.  They may also be responsible for Haagen-Dazs ice cream - favorite of depressed women.  The current head of state is Queen Margrethe II.  I think she dislikes being called a Great Dane.

Denmark owns Greenland and the Faroe Islands.  Who knew?  The country is a founding member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).  The capitol, most populace and largest city is Copenhagen.  That must be where they make the smokeless tobacco (snuff) and are no doubt specialists in treating cancer of the mouth.

The national language is Danish but about 85% of Danes speak English at least as good as American high school freshmen.  The country has it's own established church - it is protestant and similar to Lutheran.    The country's cultural claim to fame is Lars Ulrich, the drummer for the rock band Metallica who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I think that's enough for this little country - maybe, next Friday we'll visit another.
